About 541 Post

The Hub of Five Valleys.
Missoula, Montana.

"The Last Best Place" is a stretch, but Missoula, Montana is truly The Hub of Five Valleys, Four Seasons, and One Post.

Founder's Note

"To call Missoula 'The Last Best Place' is frankly subjective, and it has become quite the cliché. Missoula should refer to more than a city, a county, or a dot on the Montana map. It should carry more draw than a university. The opportunities are yet to come to fruition — but the hub has a natural pull across five valleys that makes it a place of inevitable collaboration."

The Five Valleys

Natural Pull. Inevitable Collaboration.

Five valleys converge here. Each has its own character, its own rhythm, its own people. The hub doesn't flatten those differences — it amplifies them. That's what makes the collaboration inevitable rather than forced.

Clark Fork Valley

The river corridor through the heart of the city. Markets, arts, dining, and the current of downtown life.

Bitterroot Valley

Farms, forests, and small towns stretching south from Lolo to Darby. The long valley with deep roots.

Rattlesnake Valley

Wilderness trails, neighborhood rhythms, and the quiet north end where the city gives way to the wild.

Hellgate Valley

The university corridor — culture, education, and the pulse of a town that thinks for a living.

Blackfoot Valley

The wild east. Ranching, conservation, and communities that know what it means to hold land.

We're Looking for Locals

541 Post is actively looking for locals from each of the five valleys who have an interest in writing, storytelling, or exploring journalism. You don't need a degree or a press badge — you need curiosity, a connection to your valley, and something worth saying. If you hear something on the ground level, we want to publish it.

We are also actively seeking a Head Editor / COO — someone who believes in the mission, can shape the editorial voice across all five valleys, and wants to help build something that matters to this place for a long time. A journalism degree from the University of Montana is preferred. If that's you, reach out.
